Xe Máy Độ-Xe Máy Độc: Welding

Sometimes skateboarding isn't skateboarding.

-famous quote by Papa Puff.

Sometimes bike building isn't bike building, either.
Its all just tinkering though, right?

Weld-me table.
Size small.

Moyou is not too sure about this.
 Getting closer.
I'm sorry for being so loud.
 One more thing.....
 Something like this?
 I'll get to you tomorrow.
 Soul saver.

O.R. organization re-attempted.
(minus) White cart

Tank welding Tiggerific

*Disclaimer*
I have never welded aluminum before.  I have not used a tig welder in years.  This was my second time.  I am a self proclaimed proud-to-be booger welder.  This was a challenge.

Headin' there.
I love my fruit trees but I wish I had one of these trees like my mom and pops.

Gettin' down to business.
Time to turn a cap for that hole.
This lathe is so much easier to use....
 Done.

Fillin' holes.

Ryan showing me how its done.
This was my best flat weld after a little practice.
Tank is done but not pretty.
I picked the worst thing to try to weld on my first attempt.....

Headin' home.

Mt first seat bump.

I knew this tank would come in handy some day...
.....it had screws and bondo to patch holes...
 Deconstructed.
Tacked.
 Moyou approved.
 Filled.
 Cleaned up a bit
 Visualize.

Honda CB160 Seat Modification

Today was seat mod. day.
Tomorrow is parent teacher conference day.

Stock seat de-foamed.
 Stock seat nasty.
 Choppy.
The mid section of the seat slides onto two stays welded to the frame.
I figured this would be a good starting point for a fairly symmetrical seat.
 Attached the sides.

 Eh.
Good enough for now.
It lines up with the tank pretty nice and is about 1.5 - 2 inches slimmer.
Originally thought I would work the springs back in the equation but have a different idea now.

She's alive

Too many ideas floating around in my head to remember to take pictures.

These will work until I get that aluminum...
Turning down the brake arm pivot point.
 Tappin' it.

Rear brake cable stay needed to move.
I made this today, it was the last thing that got welded on before the flux wire decided to stop.
The shifter lever and brake lever were finished today.
This is what the rear brake cable mounts to.
 Horrible pictures today.
10-4:30 in the sun.
The perfect weekend to forget about time.
Get lost in my head for a while.

Oh, yeah.
She started up 4th or 5th kick.
Still a long way to go.

Skate break.

溶接 and Safety Moyou

Skip the last two photos unless you like to look at ugly welds

"Thanks for keeping me safe dad."
-Moyou
That face!
Needs brazed...I'm scared I might blow through the thin tank metal where the leak is..
 Ugh...

Tank mounted

After the tab was made I couldn't wait...
I was going to take it to Kyle to Tig it but...

Back to the red tank for now
The fuel tap position is more conducive to the engine position
Tapped and cleaned it this morning
Tab cut, bent, cleaned up
Under tank
Prep

Post test weld
My brother always said most of the time spent welding is in the prep
Moyou agrees

Tapped the frame instead of welding in the bung
These old Ariel frames have thick tubing.....
Still needs cleaned up and a leak tacked up
Next is the sissy bar and tail/brake lights
Next two weeks?
